Housing replacement service

Damaged, cracked or handset case in poor condition? Get it replaced so your radio looks like new again.

Over time radio housings become worn with everyday use, or are damaged because the handheld was dropped. This can lead to issues if the radio is used outdoors. Rain can enter the internal workings of the radio which will usually lead to corrosion of the printed circuit board and components of the radio. Once this has started, unless the radio is taken to a service centre to be treated and cleaned, the radio will fail and usually is not repairable. The radio is then said to BER (Beyond economical repair), in which case you will need to purchase a new walkie-talkie.

New cases are available for most PMR radios including licence free types such as the Motorola XTNiD, XTNi, XT420, XT460, Kenwood TK3301, TK3501, Icom IC-F27SR, IC-F29SR and other makes such as Vertex, Hytera, Kirisun etc. Mike Ashby Comms offers this service and will treat any liquid ingress, provided corrosion has not progressed to an advanced stage. Further, on some radios the rubber pust-to-talk button may be missing and if it is an integral part of the housing, a new case will be required. This is true of the Motorola XT420, XT460, XTNi and XTNiD 446 PMR handsets.
